Daniel 9:4-6
New International Version

4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:

“Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. 6 We have not listened to your servants, the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.

For Reflection

To be our God, we must know our God. We must have enough confidence in our relationship with God to be able to speak with God sincerely, confessing our shortcomings.

Daniel certainly fits those criteria. Daniel prayed this confession not only for himself but also on behalf of the people. Were all the people as humble and contrite as David? Probably not. But David trusted that the Lord would deal with them righteously. Daniel did not attempt to vindicate or justify sinful behavior. Instead, in penitent acknowledgment, David unburdened his people by conceding the truth of their disobedience.

Pray

Pray and strengthen your relationship with the living God. Pray humbly and honestly as you reveal your shortcomings and admit your failure. Pray and repent.
