Justice and the Prophets
God Requires Justice
Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5)
Consequences for Injustice
Habakkuk 2:18-20 New International Version
18 “Of what value is an idol carved by a craftsman? Or an image that teaches lies? For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak. 19 Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.”
20 The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.
For Reflection
Idols are not always carved out of wood or stone. They are not always gilded or covered in jewels. But all idols have one thing in common. They draw our minds away from God, and we are seduced into trusting in things that do not warrant our trust. Self-determination, wealth, power, are all empty teachers that cannot see, cannot hear, and cannot satisfy the longing that resides deep in our souls.
Pray
Pray and rest in silence.
