God Requires Justice

Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5)

A Prayer for Justice

Job 19:1-7 New International Version

Job

19 Then Job replied:
2 “How long will you torment me
    and crush me with words?
3 Ten times now you have reproached me;
    shamelessly you attack me.
4 If it is true that I have gone astray,
    my error remains my concern alone.
5 If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me
    and use my humiliation against me,
6 then know that God has wronged me
    and drawn his net around me.
7 “Though I cry, ‘Violence!’ I get no response;
    though I call for help, there is no justice.

For Reflection

Beliving that he had been unjustly accused, frustrated with his friend's responses to his suffering,  Job was angry. What seemed to bother him most was that his friend's pious response delivered with great confidence in its correctness was empty, irrational and condescending.

Pray

Pray and contemplate the times when you attempt to comfort another offended the person you were trying to comfort. Pray that you will be able to check your dogmatic conventional advice in favor of compassionate attention to the need of those whom you try to comfort.
