Justice and the Prophets
God Promises a Just Kingdom Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5)
Resurrection Hope
Acts 9:1-9 New International Version
Saul’s Conversion
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now, get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes, he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. For three days, he was blind and did not eat or drink anything.
For Reflection
I have always wondered what went through Saul's mind as he spent three days wandering, tripping on the rocky road, unable to see his way or find drink or food. Was he angry? Absorbed by fear, and perhaps abandoned by his companions, did he curse Jesus? Did he mourn the loss of his ability to control his life? When all was lost, and his suffering became intolerable and having exhausted all alternatives, did he then turn to the very person he persecuted in prayer?
Can you imagine the relief he felt when he heard Ananias speak the words of salvation and Saul was transformed to become Paul?
Few of us will experience the transformational experience of Saul, but all of us can be transformed by accepting the will of God, realizing that the source of our nagging dissatisfaction can only be satiated by living in the hollow of God's hand.
Pray
Pray prayers of praise and thanksgiving for the love God has shown to us. Pray so that you. can conform to God's will and honor God by sacrificing your life for the joy of living in the household of God as God's obedient servant.
