Many Faces of WisdomWisdom in Proverbs Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) The Gifts of Wisdom1 Corinthians 1:18-25 New International VersionChrist Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[a] 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. For ReflectionThe Crucifixion is as much about Christ's death as it is His life. The meaning of His death is diminished if it is not understood in the context of His life. As he lived he, taught us the will of God. His wisdom was not the wisdom of the cultures in which he inhabited. He taught an alternative to the generally accepted wisdom of his time. His wisdom was the inverse of common wisdom. Where conventional assumptions indicated hate, his assumption was love. Where the common practice was a vendetta, he taught forgiveness. Where over 60% of the population lived in conditions which could not sustain life, he saught compassionate giving. Where there was systemic injustice, he encouraged institutionalized justice. He challenged the status quo. And though He died because the privileged fear Him, his impact will continue to animated God's will for the reconciliation of all people to God and each other. PrayPray prayers of praise and thanksgiving for the love God has shown to us. Give thanks to the God of Love for all those that sacrifice themselves for the common good. Forward to a friend
