Anna Speaks about the Christ Child

She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four.[a]She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. For Reflection Anna was a recognized prophet.  Devoted to God, Anna worshiped, fasted, and prayed continuously in the temple. That she was from the tribe of Asher is significant.  Not all of her tribe were lost in exile. Some remained to carry on the line of Abraham and continue the faith. Jesus came to enlighten all people, not just the exilic Jews. The boy, Jesus, was not recognized only by his parentage. He was also known for his wisdom and knowledge of the Kingdom of God.
