Many Faces of WisdomWisdom in the Gospels Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) Wisdom, The Way, the Truth, and the LifeJohn 14:18-24 New Revised Standard Version18 “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while, the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day, you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me and I in you. 21 They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me, and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words, and the word that you hear is not mine but is from the Father who sent me. For ReflectionWe tend to discount or even reject the mystery that is the reality of God.
Because we are human, our understanding of ourselves and the existence of all things is limited by our humanity. We cannot imagine beyond the boundaries of our human experience. We value our rationality above our emotions and both above the mere thought that mysticism has any value what so ever. What can be more mysterious than the declaration, "...I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you." This idea is difficult to rationalize and so becomes difficult to believe.
The good news is that we do not have to accept this mystery to experience it! We all have a yearning to belong. When we feel or know that we belong, that we have a sense of fit in a place, we can achieve a relational bond. Such a tethering becomes a uniting or binding force of mutual influence.
In a Christian sense, this union is a knot of love and trust through which we can understand ourselves and The Creation. Belonging will lead to discovery and discovery will lead to ever-expanding spiritual knowledge and practice. PrayPray and contemplate your feelings of belonging. Pray prayers of thanksgiving for the gift of seeing beyond the horizon of our humanity into the reality of oneness with God, the Creation, and one's self. Forward to a friend
