LOVE VERSUS GUILT

Genesis 42:1-5
New International Version

Joseph’s Brothers Go to Egypt

42 When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why do you just keep looking at each other?” 2 He continued, “I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die.”

3 Then ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.

4 But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, with the others, because he was afraid that harm might come to him.5 So Israel’s sons were among those who went to buy grain, for there was famine in the land of Canaan also.

For Reflection

The story of Joseph reads like a novella. Indeed the story of the relationship of Israel and God, its history, is our history too. God is revealed in our history. As God's will animates both those, like, Joseph who chooses to be obedient and all others, Joseph's father and his brothers, Herod, Pilot, or Pharoah, all move (willingly or not) toward the realization of God's will. What happens to us is a result of the choices we make. We all have to face those consequences.

Pray

Pray so that you begin to understand the will of God manifesting in our everyday events. Pray and study scripture so that you can start to see the working of the universe as God sees it. Pray and know that God is good and all things evolve toward God.
