Love for One AnotherGreat Love Among Believers Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) Loving by ServingGenesis 24:20-25 New International Version20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. 21 Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful. 22 When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka[a] and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels.[b] 23 Then he asked, “Whose daughter are you? Please tell me, is there room in your father’s house for us to spend the night?” 24 She answered him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son that Milkah bore to Nahor.” 25 And she added, “We have plenty of straw and fodder, as well as room for you to spend the night.” For ReflectionIs this an example of Divine Providence? Are our times in God's hands? Are the events in our lives just a matter of coincidence?
Abraham's servant, a manager of his domestic concerns, who devoutly served God prayed to find a wife for his master who would be a companion and one he trusted to form the minds of his master's children. He prayed that God would make the right choice clear to him. He sought God's sign, not in the commonplaces of entertainment, but instead at the well, a place where he might find a person of humility and huge in heart. There, he found the daughter of Bethuel and gave her awards for her kindness and hospitable spirit.
The servant had scarcely ended his prayer for a God sign to lead him to a wise choice when he met Rebecca. Believing he saw the product of his prayer, he did not jump to the conclusion that the chance meeting at the well was providential. Instead, the servant questioned her. His first impressions were confirmed in her answers.
Pray Pray, for God signs that will lead you to act on the will of God. Pray so that you, too, will recognize the signs of "right" choices. Pray for the wisdom to measure your opinion of others by the generosity, liberality, and hospital spirit of God. Forward to a friend
