Call in the New TestamentThe Beginning of a Call Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) Called to Prepare the WayMatthew 17:1-8 The MessageSunlight Poured from His Face17 1-3 Six days later, three of them saw that glory. Jesus took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes. Sunlight poured from his face. His clothes were filled with light. Then they realized that Moses and Elijah were also there in deep conversation with him. 4 Peter broke in, “Master, this is a great moment! What would you think if I built three memorials here on the mountain—one for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah?” 5 While he was going on like this, babbling, a light-radiant cloud enveloped them, and sounding from deep in the cloud a voice: “This is my Son, marked by my love, the focus of my delight. Listen to him.” 6-8 When the disciples heard it, they fell flat on their faces, scared to death. But Jesus came over and touched them. “Don’t be afraid.” When they opened their eyes and looked around, all they saw was Jesus, only Jesus. For ReflectionLight is not just a familiar Biblical motif. In ancient Jewish thought, light was the mystical outpouring of God; it was how God entered the human soul.
How can we capture the essence of that for which we have no words or notion? We cannot see light. We can only see the reflections of the images bathed in light.
When one invites the light of God to enter one's soul, the whole creation is illuminated. One's personhood changes from the inside out. God's radiance beams from those who embrace the Word Incarnate.
Mystical, you say? Yes, I say, but no less real or true. How do others see God reflected in you? How do you see others reflected in the light of God emanating from you? PrayPray, and find joy in the light of God which resides in your soul. Forward to a friend |
