Call in the New TestamentThe Beginning of a Call Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) Called to Prepare the WayMatthew 17:9-13 The Message9 Coming down the mountain, Jesus swore them to secrecy. “Don’t breathe a word of what you’ve seen. After the Son of Man is raised from the dead, you are free to talk.” 10 The disciples, meanwhile, were asking questions. “Why do the religion scholars say that Elijah has to come first?” 11-13 Jesus answered, “Elijah does come and get everything ready. I’m telling you, Elijah has already come but they didn’t know him when they saw him. They treated him like dirt, the same way they are about to treat the Son of Man.” That’s when the disciples realized that all along he had been talking about John the Baptizer. For ReflectionToday I am reminded of the brevity of our mortality and the infinite existence of our souls. I am reminded of the God-light that animates those who are the vessels of truth. I am reminded of how blinded to God's messengers we can be. I am reminded upon reflection of those whose God-light illuminated the righteous path we sometimes trod with the sobriety of God's will, and often drunk with self-absorption. I am reminded of the shepherds we ignored and those who gathered us, returning us to the fold. I am reminded the Elijah always has come first to pave the way to our salvation.
After the hubbub of the day subsides, this Christmas ponder the meaning of the birth, life, and death of Jesus. Contemplate how those who have preceded you have paved your way to righteousness. Consider who or what invites your return to the healing hand of God. PrayPray about all things. Pray a prayer of silence and listen for the God-whispers. Forward to a friend |
