Prophets Faithfull to God's CovenantProphets of Restoration Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) The Suffering Servant Brings SalvationLuke 18:31-34 The MessageI Want to See Again31-34 Then Jesus took the Twelve off to the side and said, “Listen carefully. We’re on our way up to Jerusalem. Everything written in the Prophets about the Son of Man will take place. He will be handed over to the Romans, jeered at, ridiculed, and spit on. Then, after giving him the third degree, they will kill him. In three days, he will rise, alive.” But they didn’t get it, they could make neither heads nor tails of what he was talking about. For ReflectionMost scholars suggest that the Disciples spent about three years in an intense and sometimes frightful mentorship with Jesus. They witnessed the interactions Jesus had with all manner of people. They observed miracles. They discussed their faith under Jesus' tutelage. They fasted with him and prayed with him. Despite all that experience, the passionate, forgiving, healing God that Jesus was revealing was foreign to their everyday experience. They had a hard time "getting it."
We, too, with or without faith experience or counsel, have a hard time understanding the theology and practice that God intends. PrayPray about all things. Pray and read scripture. Pray and attend to all the instructions you can find. Pray and speak with other believers. Pray and participate in Worship. Pray and let the Word of God inform your every thought and action. Pray, and in your imperfection, strive for perfection. Having stumbled and fallen short, repent, pray, and know that you are forgiven.
