Prophets Faithfull to God's CovenantCourageous Prophets of Change Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) Jonah: Fiery Harbinger of Doom Jonah 1:13-16 New International Version13 Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before. 14 Then they cried out to the Lord, “Please, Lord, do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, Lord, have done as you pleased.” 15 Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. 16 At this, the men greatly feared the Lord, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows to him. For ReflectionThere is never a single objective in the activities that advance God's effort for reconciliation and human restoration. Some are so subtle that we pass them over without recognizing the impact they have. The sailor's reactions to Jonah's threatening presence on the boat may be one of those. We can most probably assume that the sailors, like most of the population, were not committed God Worshipers. And yet, they prayed for God to intercede on their behalf. After have thrown Jonah overboard (a sinful act of murder by most standards), God gave them a sign of God's sovereignty in answer to their prayers of intercession. Many sailors became believers. PrayPray and begin to see the world with the eyes of God. Pray and have confidence that the Lord answers prayers in unexpected ways.
