Confident HopeFaith and Salvation Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) The Power of the Gospel2 Peter 2:4-9 The Message4-5 God didn’t let the rebel angels off the hook but jailed them in hell till Judgment Day. Neither did he let the ancient ungodly world off. He wiped it out with a flood, rescuing only eight people—Noah, the sole voice of righteousness, was one of them. 6-8 God decreed destruction for the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. A mound of ashes was all that was left—grim warning to anyone bent on an ungodly life. But that good man Lot, driven nearly out of his mind by the sexual filth and perversity, was rescued. Surrounded by moral rot day after day after day, that righteous man was in constant torment. 9 So God knows how to rescue the godly from evil trials. And he knows how to hold the feet of the wicked to the fire until Judgment Day. For ReflectionMany of us can identify with Lot. We have been bombarded daily with examples of spiritual darkness, shootings, insurrections, hate marches, and the ever-present perversions of truth-telling. As a result, like David in Psalm 5, we are tempted to pray for vengeance on the wicked.
"Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues, they tell lies. 10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.
Such a prayer arises out of frustration, threat, fear, and hopelessness instead of trust and confidence in God. At some time or another, haven't we all felt lost in the calamity of our lives? Haven't we all wished that God would ride in and save us from the evil that surrounds us? Haven't we all been shaded in despair?
God hears all of our prayers, even the ones for vengeance. PrayPray and reveal all of your frustrations. Pray and expect God to answer in unexpected ways. Pray and let the Holy Spirit comfort you and give you peace.
