Here and now, I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. The Christ event upset all the apple carts! The impact begins with Luke's description of the announcement to shepherds. Not to kings or social elites, this announcement was made to the lowest of the low in the social stratis. These were the lowly and the hungry in Mary's hymn, the Magnificat.
Jesus confirms this foreshadowing of the Gospel theme in the story of Zacchaeus' transformation.
