Christmas Overture
The Advent of the Messiah Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) Luke 2:1-7 New King James VersionChrist Born of Mary2 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the town of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed [a]wife, who was with child. 6 So it was that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a [b]manger because there was no room for them in the inn. For Reflection
A savior was born. The Christ event was unexpected. The Jewish faithful expected a Messiah, just not the one they got. Not even the Angels expected God to give God's self to the world in human form.
Jesus' birth, ministry, death, and resurrection changed the world forever. The change came at a cost, however. God extended the faith of the Jews to pagans. No longer would God only belong to the Jewish traditions. The Christ Event demolished the walls of the temple. The Pagans would now have the same rights and privileges as the Jewish faithful.
Christ's call for justice also threatened the civilized world. Oppression would no longer hold Christians captive. All who heard and believed the Gospel became opponents of injustices. Change agents for God are not always welcome. PrayPraise God for the gift of Jesus. Forward to a friend |
