From Darkness to Light God Prepares the Way John the Baptist Live in the light of God (Isaiah 2:5) John 1:1-14 The Voice
1 Before time itself was measured, the Voice was speaking. The Voice was and is God. 2 This celestial Word remained ever present with the Creator; 3 His speech shaped the entire cosmos. Immersed in the practice of creating, all things that exist were birthed in Him. 4 His breath filled all things with a living, breathing light— 5 A light that thrives in the depths of darkness, blazes through murky bottoms. It cannot and will not be quenched. 6 A man named John, who was sent by God, was the first to clearly articulate the source of this Light. 7 This baptizer put in plain words the elusive mystery of the Divine Light so all might believe through him. Some wondered whether he might be the Light, 8 but John was not the Light. He merely pointed to the Light. 9 The true Light, who shines upon the heart of everyone, was coming into the cosmos. 10 He entered our world, a world He made, yet the world did not recognize Him. 11 Even though He came to His own people, they refused to listen and receive Him. 12 But for all who did receive and trust in Him, He gave them the right to be reborn as children of God; 13 He bestowed this birthright not by human power or initiative but by God’s will. 14 The Voice took on flesh and became human and chose to live alongside us. We have seen Him, enveloped in undeniable splendor—the one true Son of the Father—evidenced in the perfect balance of grace and truth. For Reflection
Before the beginning of time was the word, and the word was with God. and the word was God.
This verse is one of my favorites. Language is the stuff that both holds us together and, sometimes, separates us. Consider that before time God was the Word, and God was the essence of all things. God spoke the cosmos into being. What language did God use? The essence, the archetype of all things. If one could have heard, seen, tasted, touched, or even smelled God's word, the combination of all our senses could not have understood the depth of God's meaning.
Human words are only arbitrary collections of sounds that can refer only to a portion of what is meant. If I say the word "tree," the meaning is unique to me. But not to all others. The image that may pop up in your mind is not exactly what I had in mind. Nor anyone else who heard it would not have generated an identical image. To all others, a reference would be defined by common agreement.
But God's words are an aggregation of all meanings, the essence of being.
The Christ event has shown us God in all God's complexity. Jesus is the light, the medium through which we can view both an ordinary way of thinking about the world as we perceive it and as God desires us to perceive it. The Kingdom of God displaces our common perceptions. The path to divine meaning is FAITH. PrayPray, so you can see beyond the word to the word behind the word. Pray that you will consider the words you and others use open to interpretation. Pray for the faith to accept the possibility of alternate meanings. Pray and listen to God's word.
