Solomon's Dedication Prayer
Colossians 3:8-13 New International Version
8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all and is in all.
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
For Reflection
As Christians, we are instructed to forgive each other. Common secular practice when one has been wronged is to allege that the wrongdoer is responsible for making the first move toward reconciliation. Sometimes the misdoer has no idea that he or she has done anything wrong.
If you have been wronged, the first step toward reconciliation is to forgive the other, not necessarily with words but always with action. God has not only forgiven all of your misdeeds, but God has also forgotten erased your errors.
Can you do the same for one who has injured you?
Pray
Pray and contemplate the impact of holding grudges and failure to reconcile. Pray so that you will be able to forgive and act to reconcile. Pray so that whatever to hold against another will not consume your soul.
